Bring Design & Technology to life for your students and fire their future career ambitions by showing them the many different paths a career could take at our Design & Technology LIVE! conference - all whilst enjoying the magic of Disneyland® Paris!

Experts from high profile organisations will provide relevant examples, supporting students in their portfolio preparation and investigations with a focus on product design, technology, sustainability and ethics. Through real-life experiences our speakers will give students the chance to hear about the challenges in designing new and better products for our society’s future, designing with new and smart materials, and designing for a more sustainable future. 

The interactive question and answer sessions allow them to ask the questions. In addition, a student workbook is provided prior to the event with background information on each of our speakers as well as subject-specific park challenges to complete in the Disney® Parks.

Who Is This For?

The event is designed to complement Design & Technology across the AQA, OCR, Edexcel and WJEC curriculums at Key Stage 4 (GCSE).  The event will support students in their portfolio preparation, as well as the practical aspect of their studies, by delving into a specific company with a focus on product design, technology, sustainability & ethics.

Jude Pullen

Jude is a technologist and physical prototyping expert who’s worked at Dyson, Sugru, LEGO. He is passionate about inclusive design, and assisting businesses to shape their futures through design thinking, and novel use of technologies. His work now ranges from social media to neuroscience, while also helping companies find new ways to stay relevant and make sense of societal shifts and emergent platforms.

With his extensive experience of exploring new innovations and collaborating with other creatives, Jude will be able to give your students invaluable insight into design principles.

Jon Chase - Facilitator

Jon Chase is a science communicator, author and science rapper based in South Wales. He has an intense passion for scientific thinking and believes that knowledge should be made available in a way that allows as many people as possible the opportunity to gain access to it. He has presented science for BBC learning on TV and YouTube and also co-authored books on The Science of Star Wars, The Science of Harry Potter and The Science of Jurassic World. In 2017 he was awarded the Josh Award in Science Communication but is perhaps best known for his science raps, which he has produced for various learning establishments and organisations including NASA and the BBC.

Lisa Farrell

Lisa Farrell is Business Development Manager at The National Robotarium in Edinburgh. An environmental scientist by training, Lisa has used her skills across a number of different roles to solve real-world problems from safe, sustainable school travel to running a climate change charity. In her current role, Lisa’s overarching aim is to enable more people to use more robotics, more of the time.

Robotics and AI has the potential to address some of the biggest global challenges we face today. From a climate emergency, to an ageing population, Lisa will demonstrate how robotics can play a key role in tackling these issues.

Ben Spalding

Born in Dublin, Ben has been part of the Disney team for over 30 years fulfilling a number of roles from lifeguard, to Special Events Coordinator, to stuntman! He has produced a number of spectacular shows for the company including ‘Disney Dreams®!’, ‘Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show… with Mickey and friends!’ and ‘Disney Stars on Parade!’. Ben’s most recent projects are the production of the stunning ‘Disney D-Light’ and ‘Avengers Power the Night’ shows – achievements powered by cutting-edge technology that includes amazing drone effects. 

Ben will dazzle your students as they learn about the design and execution of the brand-new nighttime show ‘Disney Electrical Sky Parade’ that magically splashes the sky with a thousand lights and colours.

Q&A Session

Our lively and interactive question and answer session gives the students control to ask the questions they want answers to.  All the speakers take to the stage to answer questions to provide different perspectives and to offer invaluable career advice from their own experience.

Workbook and Park Challenges

Our complementary workbooks are designed to be used as your group enjoy the Disney® Parks.  The workbooks contain park challenges which encourage students to take a step back and critically appraise the resort from their subject perspective. These park challenges provide opportunity for problem solving, decision making as well as working together so that your students get the maximum from the their time at Disneyland® Paris.
